Small silk paper vessels made from silk fibres.

 

After reading an excerpt from Lapwing and Fox by John Berger and John Christie I began thinking about maps and journeys. Amanda and I then worked on this tiny piece together.

I have been creating miniature textile pieces. Postcard type size to fit into envelopes. Each piece has been created from scraps of fabric. Sometimes the fabric itself has meaning to me and at other times the designs I have embroidered bring back memories of the things that have been important to me in my life. When I was making this piece I was thinking of summer days and picnics in the garden.

This piece reminds me of walks in the countryside, winding lanes and wild flowers.

I have been creating small textile squares from scraps of fabric. I am inspired by the patterns on the fabrics the memories each of the fabric scraps has for me and the places and ideas that the designs remind me of.
